At the age of 9, Caroline Pennell was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. Five years later, she’s sharing the lessons learned with the world. Pennell, a Chesterfield County resident and a freshman at Matoaca High School, will miss her first day of school this year. She’ll be in Las Vegas, appearing on the 44th annual Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon.

Aspokesman for Grammy-winning country musician Ray Price says the singer is home in Texas recuperating after surgery to remove polyps from his colon. Price’s agent, Bobby Roberts, says Price, 83, was admitted to a hospital in his home state on June 22 for routine medical tests when a colonoscopy revealed a large number of polyps in the pre-cancerous stage. Roberts says the surgery was successfully completed the next day.
