Biden to campaign for Deeds, and McCain for McDonnell
Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and 2008 presidential candidate John McCain are coming to Virginia to help their parties’ candidates for governor. The Democratic vice president will help R. Creigh Deeds at a private fundraiser in Alexandria tomorrow. McCain, a Republican U.S. senator from Arizona, will help rally veterans to support Bob McDonnell at an Oct. 17 rally in Hampton Roads, which has a large population of veterans.

Biden defends stimulus package in Henrico
Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. strongly defended the Obama administration’s $787 billion economic-stimulus package yesterday, saying it has prevented the country from going into an even deeper recession. “I am absolutely, positively confident that we are on the right track,“ he told an audience of about 140 students, faculty members and invited guests at the Henrico County campus of J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College.

The last stop on Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.‘s trip to Virginia came along Henrico County’s affluent River Road corridor, where he attended a private fundraiser for Democratic gubernatorial candidate R. Creigh Deeds. Standing in the spacious, but crowded kitchen of Leon and Lisa Roday, Biden told roughly 100 well-heeled donors that Deeds is the “real deal” who would not change his beliefs for the sake of political expediency.

Sargeant Reynolds Community College in Henrico County tomorrow afternoon to promote the federal stimulus package. “The vice president will discuss how the Recovery Act is building a 21st-century economy in the Richmond area and across the nation,“ according to a statement from Biden’s office.

Biden to throw out first pitch at Orioles’ opener today
BALTIMORE—The Orioles say Vice President Joe Biden will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Baltimore’s season-opening game against the New York Yankees. The Orioles are scheduled to play the Yankees at Orioles Park at Camden Yards at 4:05 p.m. today. The team says Biden will be the first sitting vice president to throw out a ceremonial first pitch at the stadium.

Biden stops in two Va. cities today, another tomorrow
Joe Biden, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, begins a two-day swing across Southside Virginia today. He’ll be in Martinsville and Danville today and in Suffolk tomorrow. On the Republican side, two of the party’s big names are coming to Chesterfield and Virginia Beach. Former New York Mayor Rudy Guiliani and Steve Forbes, the publisher and former presidential candidate, will appear tomorrow on behalf of John McCain.

Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden said yesterday it’s unfair that executives of failed corporations are paid millions of dollars while their employees lose their pensions. Biden vowed that he and Barack Obama would attack corporate greed if they’re elected.
