John Cephas tribute re-airs tonight on WCVE
Page Wilson, on his “Out O’ the Blue Radio Revue” tonight from 8 to 10 on WCVE (88.9 FM), will re-air two segments of a solo concert by John Cephas, the legendary Piedmont bluesman who died March 4. The JAMinc concert was recorded May 1, 2008, at Richmond’s In Your Ear Studios. A memorial service and musical tribute to Cephas will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History’s Baird Auditorium in Washington. A House Party Jam will follow at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 400 I Street S.W.

Services, celebrations planned in memory of blues musician John Cephas
Tributes set in honor of blues musician Cephas A “Reflections of Life Celebration” service for John Dudley Cephas, offering musicians who knew the legendary Piedmont blues guitarist an opportunity to perform, will be held at noon Saturday in Bowling Green.

Legendary Piedmont blues guitarist John Cephas dies at 78
John “Bowling Green” Cephas, the legendary Piedmont blues guitarist and baritone vocalist who was recently honored as a 2009 Library of Virginia African American Trailblazer, died Wednesday morning at home in Woodford in Caroline County.

8 recognized as ‘African American Trailblazers’ by Library of Virginia
Three living recipients of the 2009 African American Trailblazers in Virginia History honor credited others who came before them for making their achievements possible. Claudia Whitworth, publisher of the Roanoke Tribune newspaper; blues musician John Cephas; and astronaut Leland Melvin were among eight Virginians recognized at the Library of Virginia tonight. The other recipients were honored posthumously.
Legendary Piedmont Blues guitarist John Cephas honored
John Cephas, legendary Piedmont Blues guitar player, is being honored as one of eight black trailblazers as designated by the Library of Virginia’s African American History Month. The celebration kicked off last night at the Capital Ale House with a special tribute concert called “Piedmont Blues with Wiggins and Friends: A Tribute to John Cephas,“ sponsored by the library and the River City Blues Society of Virginia.
