King William earns playoff rematch with Essex  11/21/09 12:01 AM

CENTRAL GARAGE - A season-opening loss is one to forget for most teams. Not for the King William football team. The Cavaliers lost to Essex in August and vowed that they would see the Trojans again. The rematch takes place next Saturday at Essex because King William defeated Washington & Lee 27-20, and Essex remained undefeated with a 49-8 victory over Nandua in Region A, Division 2 playoff semifinals last night.

‘Other’ teams also in action  11/20/09 12:01 AM

The first-string defense for the Powhatan football team hasn’t spent much time on the field this season, especially in the second half of games. The Indians’ defense has four shutouts to its credit and has allowed just 47 points the entire year. The rub is that only one opponent finished with a winning record. The combined records of the 10 opponents is 33-64.

King William amassed 223 yards total on the ground scored all six of its scores were rushing as the Cavaliers defeated King and Queen yesterday. Lewis Redman threw for 80 yards and a touchdown as the Cavaliers improved to 8-2. Larry Johnson had two scoring runs of five yards apiece. King and Queen fell to 1-9 for the season. Football: King William 22, West Point 18  11/06/09 10:16 PM

King William (3-0 Tidewater, 7-2) handed West Point (3-1, 9-1) its first loss of the season and took control of the Tidewater District. West Point held a 12-0 lead at halftime, but King William’s Daryl Powell scored three second half touchdowns to give King William the win. He had eight receptions for 100 yards. King William’s Lewis Redman was 13 of 23 for three TDs, three interceptions and 166 yards.

Football: King William 48, Middlesex 14  10/30/09 9:48 PM

Type text of update here. Lewis Redman threw for two touchdowns and Devin Carey returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown in a dominant first half in the Cavaliers easy Tidewater District win over the Chargers. Devonte Temple started King William (2-0, 6-2) off with two touchdowns. Then Lewis Redman (8 of 13, 129 yards, two TDs) took over and Carey crowned the first half with his return to give the Cavaliers a 34-7 lead at the half.

Football: King William 47, Mathews 3  10/23/09 10:18 PM

Larry Johnson and Lamont Ward ran for two touchdowns apiece and King William cruised past Mathews (4-4). Johnson finished with six carries for 123 yards and Ward carried nine times for 101 yards. Lewis Redman was 10 for 22 passing for 173 yards and two TDs for the Cavaliers (5-2), who totaled 33 carries for 367 yards. Clay Harrington’s field goal in the second quarter helped Mathews avoid the shutout.

Football: King William 28, Washington and Lee 14  10/09/09 10:32 PM

Daryl Powell caught two touchdown passes from Lewis Redmond and Lamont Ward scored an offensive and defensive touchdown to lead the Cavaliers to victory. Ward opened the scoring with a 36-yard fumble return and later scored on a 48-yard run. He finished with 100 yards on just eight carries. Redmond was 11 of 27 for 172 yards and two touchdowns and Powell caught three passes for 51 yards. Hunter Faulkner had four catches for 78 yards for King William (4-2).

CENTRAL GARAGE—Lewis Redmond passed for one touchdown and ran for another, and Devonte Temple ran for two short scores and a two-point conversion in the Cavaliers’ win. Redmond was 13 of 24 for 247 yards, connecting with Daryl Powell six times for 116 yards and tossing a 10-yard TD strike to Devin Carey. Caroline’s Zach Crabtree completed 6 of 20 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown, with Quinton Broaddus on the receiving end each time.

Football: Essex 46, King William 13  09/03/09 11:22 PM

Lyndon Garner threw for four touchdowns and ran for another to lead Essex over King William last night. Garner connected with John Ellis on a 40-yard score, and with Eeon Hammond on passes of 21, 19 and 12 yards, respectively. Garner also ran for a 3-yard score. James Hence ran for 7and 12-yard TDs for the Trojans (1-0), who totaled 434 yards.
