Busch damaged image with guitar-smashing celebration  06/12/09 12:01 AM

Smashing is a good way to describe Kyle Busch’s celebration after winning the Nationwide race in Nashville. Appalling is a better way to describe Busch’s celebration. Childish is the best way to describe what Busch did. He received a beautiful trophy, a hand-painted Gibson guitar, for his victory. Busch should have held it high, admired it and said the work of art, lovingly painted by Sam Bass, always would occupy a special place in his home.

Kyle Busch is no guitar hero  06/09/09 12:01 AM

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Kyle Busch has always bucked the system, embracing the notoriety that comes with being NASCAR’s newest bad boy. He doesn’t care if race fans dislike him - and boy, do they ever - and he makes no apologies for knocking people out of his way en route to victory lane. His rejection of conformity is genuine, and Busch does everything he can to avoid being grouped as just another politically correct NASCAR driver shilling for a sponsor.

NASCAR needs to revisit points system  05/24/09 12:01 AM

Consistency has become too important to NASCAR. The holy grail in NASCAR is the Sprint Cup points championship. In order to compete for the grail, drivers must rank among the top 12 after 26 races. They then spend 10 races running for the Cup while the others get in the way. Too much emphasis is placed on top 10 finishes in Races 1 through 26, and not enough is placed on winning.

Sprint Cup: Hamlin growing with JGR  03/24/09 12:01 AM

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Denny Hamlin is so hungry for a victory that, if given the chance at Bristol Motor Speedway, he most certainly would have moved teammate Kyle Busch out of his way. “For sure,“ Hamlin said. “He’s won too much.“ He wasn’t kidding, either. Alas, he never had the opportunity to use Bristol’s legendary “bump-and-run” on Busch because Hamlin couldn’t get close enough to catch his teammate. He had to settle for a second-place finish Sunday that stretched his winless streak to 35 races.

Analysis: Kurt Busch doesn’t let little brother’s stardom distract him  03/02/09 9:12 PM

LAS VEGAS—Few would have blamed Kurt Busch if he had skipped Victory Lane. After all, drivers who finish 23rd at their home track don’t have much to celebrate. Yet with a heartfelt smile, he stopped by the party Sunday night to briefly congratulate his kid brother, Kyle. If he had even one twinge of jealousy, he didn’t show it.

NASCAR driver Busch doesn’t rule out switch to Formula One  02/27/09 8:00 PM

LAS VEGAS—Formula One was never on Kyle Busch’s mind as he chased his dream of being a NASCAR superstar. That doesn’t mean he wouldn’t consider a legitimate opportunity to join the globe-hopping series. “I toss the idea around,“ he said today at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. “It’s definitely something I wouldn’t shoot down, but I don’t think it’s the right time yet in my career and where I’m at.“
