One and done? Rapids hope not
One victory by one point. That’s the extent of James River’s football success against L.C. Bird. Tonight at James River, the Rapids square off against the Skyhawks, ranked No.2 in The Times-Dispatch Top 10 and No.9 in The Associated Press Group AAA poll, for the 16th time. The Rapids’ lone win in the series was 21-20 in 2000. History says the Skyhawks (3-0, 5-0) will defeat the Rapids (2-2, 3-2) for the 15th time, but James River’s history with Manchester took a different turn last week, and that has observers paying much more attention to the Bird game.

Football: L.C. Bird 21, Monacan 6
Quarterback Anthony Harris rushed for 125 yards on 12 carries and passed for 51 yards on two completions as No. 2 L.C. Bird (2-0, 4-0) beat Monacan (1-2, 1-3) in a Dominion District matchup. Harris connected with Lionel Williams for the game’s first touchdown, and the Skyhawks’ defense battered the Chiefs for minus 20-yards rushing. Monacan’s Logan Staid was in on 13 tackles, Chris Turner chipped in on 12.
