Women’s college basketball take five
THE BASICS: 5-11 senior guard
Wright, an elegant scorer who is particularly effective in transition, led the ACC with a 20.5-point scoring average in 2009. She piled up 696 points, a U.Va. single-season record. The ACC’s preseason player of the year will flourish if the Cavaliers can create and sustain a fast-flowing tempo.

Big South Conference preview
Liberty lost its first two Big South Conference games in 2006 under new coach Danny Rocco. It hasn’t lost a conference game since. That 11-game win streak, Rocco believes, made a team that is installing a lot of replacement parts a safe pick to repeat as champs of a league that could be topsy-turvy. Five teams drew first-place votes from the league’s coaches and media.
Liberty preview
On the good days of practice, Liberty coach Danny Rocco sees a team capable to sustaining the Top 25 profile the Flames have built the past two years. He just wants to see those good days more consistently. Liberty went 10-2 and 8-3 the past two seasons and claimed a pair of Big South Conference championships. The Flames finished last season ranked 14th in Football Championship Subdivision.

Liberty falls just short vs. W&M
WILLIAMSBURG - William and Mary beat Liberty last night on a walk-off measurement. Liberty's Rashad Jennings was stopped short on fourth and inches from the Tribe 15 in the second overtime at Zable Stadium, giving the Tribe a 48-41 victory and leaving Flames coach Danny Rocco steaming. Rocco stormed the field after the measurement because the nose of the ball was on the W&M 15. The drive started at the Tribe 25, so if the ball was on the yard marker, Rocco reasoned there was no way the measurement could be short.
