One is enough for Spartans  05/16/09 12:01 AM

PETERSBURG—Four was the fewest number of runs the Steward baseball team scored in a game the past two season. The Spartans scored just one in yesterday’s Virginia Independent Schools Division II semifinal at the Petersburg Sports Complex. One was enough to eliminate Covenant of Charlottesville and advance to today’s championship game at 2 p.m. Steward (22-3) plays Greenbrier Christian, which handed the Spartans losses in last year’s final and earlier this season.

Atlee girls soccer coach Bruce Lovelace prefers the Raiders stay out of the spotlight as long as possible each season. The Raiders can’t escape attention now after handing Mills Godwin its first loss of the season (1-0) last week at Godwin. Even though senior forwards Jordan Roseboro and Lindsey Booth are among the leading scorers in the area, sophomore Kimberly Glymph, a midfielder, netted the game’s only goal.
