Maggie Walker advances to ‘We the People’ national finals  03/13/10 12:01 AM

For the 13th year in a row, Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School will represent Virginia in a national competition about the Constitution. Students from eight high schools across Virginia competed in the “We the People” state finals yesterday. The students were grilled in mock congressional hearings in real courtrooms at the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Girls Volleyball: Hermitage 3, Maggie Walker GS 0  11/02/09 10:26 PM

Hermitage’s Erin Fitzgerald got 10 kills and Kristi Richardson handed out 21 assists as the Panthers defeated Maggie Walker 3-0 in the opening round of the Colonial District girls volleyball tournament. Fitzgerald also got six aces and a dig and Richardson added four kills and four blocks.

Richmond students among few in area to see Obama speech  09/09/09 12:01 AM

The message yesterday was simple, and the kids seemed to get it: President Barack Obama implored the nation’s schoolchildren to take charge of their futures. A group of about 30 students at Richmond’s Linwood Holton Elementary School sat intently in the media center, their eyes glued to the pull-down screen at one end of a large room. They listened as Obama spoke of his upbringing and how he worked hard—and took advantage of the occasional stroke of good luck—to get to where he is.
