Rewarding but tough job
Guy Davis has found the perfect coaching job, with one exception. Davis is the boys basketball coach at Maggie Walker Governor’s School, and he quickly can click off a list of the positives about the position. “The kids are great to work with,“ Davis said. “They give 100 percent all the time. They’re very bright, and they do what you ask them to do. The administration and parents are great to work with.“

High School Notes: Guy Davis to be honored
Mention Guy Davis’ name to most anyone in the Richmond area high school basketball world, and the most prominent memories will be of Davis sinking the state championship winning shot for Highland Springs in 1960 and of his days coaching at Henrico. Davis retired from the Henrico County school system as activities director at Varina. He retired from administration as Trinity Episcopal’s athletic director. He returned to coaching last year at Maggie Walker Governor’s School. The Green Dragons play at Henrico at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, and Henrico is turning the visit into Guy Davis Night.

There was at least an inch of water on the turf,“ Maggie Walker coach Paige Hawkins said. “Seriously, the ball would not move there was so much water.“

Trojans junior Kathleen Lautzenheiser, the 2007 champion, raced along side senior Stacey Nobles of Ocean Lakes. With less than a half-mile remaining, Nobles began to press the pace.
