Mark Parson did a double-take recently when he saw who was text messaging him. It was former NFL icon Deion Sanders. “Isn’t that crazy?“ Parson said with a laugh. “I think everyone who’s ever played cornerback loves Deion.“ The former all-pro performer was texting Parson to confirm acceptance to Sanders’ Prime U precombine training camp at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Boys: No. 3 Huguenot 88, Monacan 46
Three Huguenot players scored in double figures, and the third-ranked Falcons rolled to a Dominion District road victory over Monacan. David Brown paced the Falcons with 21 points. Big man Jonathan Crawley contributed 20 points, and Juan Wilson supplied 17. The Falcons connected for seven 3-pointers and increased their lead in every quarter.
Bender, Huguenot hold on for win
Tye Bender had 20 points and six steals as Huguenot, ranked No. 6 in the T-D Top Ten Poll, held off No. 7 Monacan 55-49 last night. Marcia Bogan registered 14 points and seven assists for the Falcons. Eban Harris scored 10 points and Jeanette Cousins added five blocks. Candice Silas scored 22 points for the Chiefs, who held the Falcons to just seven points in the fourth quarter.
A look at the region
Mills Godwin: Matt Hatcher (140) looks for a fourth district championship. Matt Brunke (152) is a district champion and regional runner-up. Blake Edwards (160) and Adam Regulinski (171) placed in the district.
Hermitage: Senior Marty VanPeppen (112) moves up. Regional champ Justin Dennis is at 125. Tom Kizer (Jr. 135) joins brother, John Kizer (Sr., 130). Regional runner-up Marc Heathcock (171) returns, along with Josh El (Sr., 189).

3 from Richmond area complete Army basic training
Army Pvt. Chidozie J. Anyalewechi, Army Pvt. April Y. Milton and Army Pfc. Keisha E. Smithers have graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During nine weeks of training, they studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Monacan graduate completes Air Force basic training
Air Force Airman Marcus A. Hawkins has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. During the six weeks of training, Hawkins studied the Air Force mission, organization, core values, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

She scored 19 points and hit all four of her 3s down the stretch in the second half. Amy Turner had 13 points.
