THE BEAT: Super Monday marks a wealth of new releases
Record sales continue to free-fall—sales are down about 13 percent from last year but that isn’t preventing the labels from unloading a massive amountof big-name product on what has been dubbed Super Monday. Typically, new releases bow on Tuesdays, but because of Thanksgiving, next week’s superstar crop comes early to still get a four-day sales week.

Second Street Festival returns Oct. 3-4
Thousands of people will step back in time this weekend as they converge on downtown Richmond for one of the mid-Atlantic’s largest street festivals. The Second Street Festival returns for the 21st year Saturday and Sunday in historic Jackson Ward, the neighborhood bounded by Interstate 95 to the north, East Broad Street to the south, Fourth Street to the east and Belvidere Street to the west.

Buju Banton show canceled
The Thursday concert by controversial reggae performer Buju Banton has been canceled. Last week, the show was moved from The National to The Hat Factory amid protests from the gay community about some of Banton’s lyrics that call for violence against homosexuals. The Hat Factory has since canceled the show. Refunds are available at the point of purchase.—Melissa Ruggieri

Chorus seeks new members
The Henrico Pops Chorus, a volunteer community chorus, is seeking new members. The group is looking for men and women, and no audition is required. Rehearsals are held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at Lakeside United Methodist Church. The group’s focus is on Broadway, pops and seasonal music. A holiday concert and spring concert are planned as well as community performances.
