CONCORD, N.C.—Kyle Busch is feeling better, thanks. The NASCACR star shrugged off walking pneumonia to dominate the Nationwide Series race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway last night, picking up his seventh victory of the year to extend his points lead over Carl Edwards with four races remaining. Mike Bliss was second, followed by Dave Blaney and Brian Vickers. Edwards finished fifth to drop 195 points behind Busch.

Nationwide: Logano earns fourth win of season

KANSAS CITY, Kan.—That horrific crash didn’t slow Joey Logano. Logano passed points leader Kyle Busch with three laps left yesterday at Kansas Speedway, pulling out his fourth Nationwide victory just a week after flipping his car seven times in a Cup race at Dover last week. Busch, who has finished second in all four of Logano’s wins this season, led 173 of the 200 laps on the 1.5-mile oval and has led 2,226 laps this season, breaking the season series record of 2,127 set by Sam Ard in 1984. But Busch didn’t have enough to hold off Logano, who came back to beat him in the final 10 laps for the fourth time this season.

KANSAS CITY, Kan.—The feud between Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski is not over. Far from it. The tension started at last weekend’s Nationwide race at Dover, where Hamlin’s day ended after contact with Keselowski caused him to crash. The former Chesterfield resident confronted Keselowski after the race on pit road, and the two had to be separated after a brief scuffle.

DOVER, Del.—Denny Hamlin’s day appeared over. His No. 20 Toyota was in the garage after Brad Keselowski spun him into the wall late in the Nationwide Series race. Not so fast. An angry Hamlin returned to pit road at the end of the Nationwide Series Dover 200 and welcomed Keselowski with a forceful shove and a heated exchange. Keselowski’s public relations rep shoved Hamlin, and crews for both drivers quickly got involved in the brief skirmish.

Edwards edges Ambrose for Nationwide Series win  08/31/09 12:01 AM

MONTREAL - Carl Edwards passed Marcos Ambrose on the final turn to win the crash-filled Nationwide race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, which ended with the cars on rain tires for the second straight year. Edwards won a two-lap sprint to the finish on a track that was both wet and dry in spots from a light rain when Ambrose, who dominated the race, slid sideways after hitting the rumble strips in Turn 14. Edwards slipped past Ambrose and outraced him down the final straightaway for his first career road win and the first Nationwide road triumph for Roush Fenway Racing.

Nationwide winner David Ragan was aided by a crash that knocked Kyle Busch out of the lead. BRISTOL, Tenn.—David Ragan held off teammate Carl Edwards on a two-lap sprint to the finish last night to win the Nationwide Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Edwards settled for second, but shaved 91 points off the commanding lead Kyle Busch carried into the race. Busch, who started the night with a 339-point lead over Edwards, was wrecked by Chase Austin while leading early in the race and finished 28th.

Keselowski rallies for Nationwide victory  08/16/09 12:01 AM

BROOKLYN, Mich. - Brad Keselowski swooped past Brian Vickers and Kyle Busch to take the lead in the final turn yesterday, then held on to win the Carfax 250 at Michigan International Speedway. Keselowski took two tires on his final pit stop, then took advantage of a furious battle for the lead between Vickers and Busch on the last lap. Vickers finished second and Busch third, and they exchanged some heated words on pit road afterward.

The hard-charging Tasmanian passed series points leader Kyle Busch with a daring move through the chicane yesterday and won the Nationwide Zippo 200 for the second straight year for JTG-Daugherty Racing.

NASCAR officials have struggled the past year to keep cash-strapped companies from bailing out of sponsorship deals. As a result, they have ventured outside the box to secure new partnerships. While officials at Richmond International Raceway acknowledged earlier this year that it’s possible General Motors may not sponsor the fall Sprint Cup event after its contract expires this year, they announced yesterday a sponsorship deal with the Virginia College Savings Plan for entitlement rights for the Sept. 11 Nationwide race at RIR.

LOUDON, N.H. - Kyle Busch finally figured out a way to win again in NASCAR’s Nationwide Series. After two straight frustrating runner-up finishes in the second tier series, Busch passed Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Joey Logano near the end of the Camping World 200 yesterday and held off the precocious 19-year-old to earn the victory at New Hampshire International Speedway.
