CLERMONT, Ind.—Carl Edwards has an idea that would revolutionize racing. He’d be in favor of starting the fastest cars in the back so the fans could enjoy watching them blow past their competition while trying to get to the front. Edwards explained his unique idea after giving a good example of why such a plan might work. He came from the back of the pack last night to win the Nationwide Series race at O’Reilly Raceway Park.

NASCAR officials have struggled the past year to keep cash-strapped companies from bailing out of sponsorship deals. As a result, they have ventured outside the box to secure new partnerships. While officials at Richmond International Raceway acknowledged earlier this year that it’s possible General Motors may not sponsor the fall Sprint Cup event after its contract expires this year, they announced yesterday a sponsorship deal with the Virginia College Savings Plan for entitlement rights for the Sept. 11 Nationwide race at RIR.

LOUDON, N.H. - Kyle Busch finally figured out a way to win again in NASCAR’s Nationwide Series. After two straight frustrating runner-up finishes in the second tier series, Busch passed Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Joey Logano near the end of the Camping World 200 yesterday and held off the precocious 19-year-old to earn the victory at New Hampshire International Speedway.

Kyle Busch outduels rival Edwards

Notch another victory for Kyle Busch in his rivalry with Carl Edwards. Busch gave the crowd a show last night in the Lipton Tea 250 by outgunning Edwards on a pair of late restarts. It was an aggressively fought final 50 laps, though nowhere near as contentious as the two rivals had raced this was a gentlemanly performance compared with their dual at Bristol in 2008.

Peyton Sellers figured he was on his way after winning the NASCAR All-American Whelan Series national championship in 2005. He was good enough that Richard Childress Racing recruited him as a developmental driver. The Danville native transitioned smoothly from Late Models at South Boston Speedway to the Nationwide Series at NASCAR venues in 2006. He competed in three Nationwide events, with the prospect of a full-time ride on the horizon.

Greg Biffle crosses the finish line to win the Bashas’ Supermarkets 200 at Phoenix International Raceway. AVONDALE, Ariz.—Greg Biffle and his Roush Fenway Racing team gambled their way to a record win Friday night. Biffle didn’t pit on the last stop, holding onto his lead by staying on the track while almost all the competition ducked in for fresh tires. But a series of late cautions prevented anyone from catching Biffle, and he held on to win the Bashas’ Supermarkets 200 at Phoenix International Raceway.

GLADEVILLE, Tenn.—Teen star Joey Logano raced to his second career NASCAR Nationwide Series victory, holding off Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch in the Pepsi 300 yesterday at Nashville Superspeedway. Logano, 18, and Busch ran in the top two and traded the lead for most of the race, with Logano leading the final 10 laps and finishing 0.487 seconds in front.

Kyle Busch made it a Texas trio in the Nationwide Series. Busch won his third consecutive Nationwide race in Texas with another dominating performance yesterday, leading a race-record 178 of 200 laps to win the O’Reilly 300. Busch finished 1.447 seconds ahead of Tony Stewart, who made a late charge from seventh with four new tires after a caution on Lap 188. Brad Keselowski, forced to start 42nd in a backup car, finished third.

NASCAR suspends Nationwide Series crewman after drug test  03/11/09 8:04 PM

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—A crew member for a Nationwide Series team has become the second person suspended this season under NASCAR’s stricter new substance abuse policy. John Boyd, a crew member for the No. 23 team of R3 Motorsports, failed a random drug test on March 9. He was suspended indefinitely by NASCAR today, and his race team said he is no longer with the organization.
