Kyle Busch, crew chief punished  11/12/09 12:01 AM

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - NASCAR yesterday docked Kyle Busch 25 Nationwide points and fined crew chief Jason Ratcliff $5,000 after Busch’s No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota failed inspection before last week’s race at Texas. NASCAR also placed Ratcliff on probation through the end of the year for actions detrimental to stock car racing, using improper equipment and use of an improperly attached weight.

Last shall be first: Edwards wins Nationwide race at RIR  09/12/09 12:04 AM

Carl Edwards started in last place and finished in first last night at the Nationwide Virginia 529 College Savings 250. Imagine what he could have done with two feet. Edwards, driving with a broken right foot, was handicapped even further after qualifying when a spark plug problem forced him to the rear of the field. None of that mattered, though, as he enjoyed a pain-free ride to the checkered flag—skipping his signature backflip celebration.

JOLIET, Ill.—Joey Logano won the Nationwide Series race at Chicagoland Speedway for his third win of the season and continues to live up to his billing as one of NASCAR’s rising stars. Logano passed Kyle Busch with 25 laps left last night, then held him off on old tires over the final 10 laps. The 19-year-old Logano, the youngest winner in Sprint Cup history, did not make a late pit stop to get fresh tires.

Bowyer survives late crash to win Nationwide race  07/04/09 12:01 AM

Clint Bowyer’s first victory of the season gave Richard Childress Racing a much-needed boost. Bowyer won the Nationwide Series race at Daytona International Speedway last night, holding off Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards in a green-white-checkered finish. “These guys never give up, the guys at RCR and the ladies,“ Childress said. “They just dig and dig. We’ve been a little bit off, and when you get a little bit off, everybody wants to kind of kick you. We just take that lick and come on back.“

Busch damaged image with guitar-smashing celebration  06/12/09 12:01 AM

Smashing is a good way to describe Kyle Busch’s celebration after winning the Nationwide race in Nashville. Appalling is a better way to describe Busch’s celebration. Childish is the best way to describe what Busch did. He received a beautiful trophy, a hand-painted Gibson guitar, for his victory. Busch should have held it high, admired it and said the work of art, lovingly painted by Sam Bass, always would occupy a special place in his home.

Busch sets the pace in Nationwide and trucks races, but falters late

Brad Keselowski found the emotional boost he needed in his first Nationwide Series victory of the year. A day after he failed to qualify for the Sprint Cup race, Keselowski shot past Kyle Busch and Joey Logano during a restart with two laps left to win at Dover International Speedway yesterday. Keselowski led only one lap in his first career Cup win at Talladega in April, giving him three laps led total in his two NASCAR victories this season.

Biffle pulls out win in Nationwide race  03/01/09 1:05 AM

Biffle pulls out win in Nationwide race

Greg Biffle was caught speeding on pit road, had another bad stop and ran out of gas while leading—twice. He overcame all of the miscues yesterday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway to snap his 76-race Nationwide Series winless streak, partly because almost every other driver had similar issues while leading. “It was definitely not short of action,“ said Biffle, who last won a Nationwide race at California in February 2006.
