Workers this week will seek to determine whether anything else is loose on the Robert E. Lee Bridge, after a large piece of concrete fell onto a suspended pedestrian bridge to Belle Isle over the weekend, officials said yesterday. The pedestrian bridge from the north bank of the James River in Richmond remained closed yesterday. No one was injured.

A hefty piece of concrete that fell yesterday from the Robert E. Lee Bridge in Richmond onto the suspended footbridge below prompted city officials to close the pedestrian crossing to Belle Isle. It may not reopen until Tuesday. The concrete chunk fell and shattered onto the pedestrian bridge about 5 p.m. No one was injured, said Christy Everson, spokeswoman for the city’s parks and recreation department.
