Powhatan reflects after 3 slayings  09/20/08 6:01 PM

After about six years without a homicide, Powhatan County has seen three this year. Some view the killings as simply a series of misfortunes. For others, they are a sign of a community in transition that is facing the problems that come with growth. On June 24, Tahliek Taliaferro, 18, a popular student and football player at Powhatan High School, was shot with an assault rifle after a confrontation at a local hangout. One of Taliaferro’s friends was wounded.
