Chemistry between W&M’s Varno and Archer is no accident
They live in a one-story, off-campus house, sometimes drive to class or football practice, and have become close friends. You would think William and Mary tight end Rob Varno might occasionally play the roommate card when he wants a pass from R.J. Archer, right? Varno, though, is too laid-back and has too much respect for his quarterback to lobby or expect preferential treatment.

Next Williamsburg visit could include an 18th-century coffeehouse experience
WILLIAMSBURG Don’t expect soy lattes or Internet access for your laptop, but your next visit to Colonial Williamsburg could include a stop in a coffeehouse. Visitors will be able to experience an 18th century-style coffeehouse when R. Charlton’s Coffeehouse opens Nov. 20 on Duke of Gloucester Street at the historic site. Free coffee, tea and hot chocolate inspired by 18th-century recipes will be served in demitasse cups at R. Charlton’s.

Tribe stuns error-prone Cavaliers
CHARLOTTESVILLE—Let a team like William and Mary hang around long enough, and they just might start thinking they belong. Which they do. The Tribe defeated the Hoos for the first time since 1986, a 26-14 victory orchestrated by a Charlottesville native, quarterback R.J. Archer. He had an assist from U.Va., which stumbled and bumbled over itself in all three phases of the game.

W&M’s Archer will try to beat U.Va. team he cheered for as child
WILLIAMSBURG R.J. Archer never has had a view this good at Scott Stadium. He’s also never faced odds this long. William and Mary’s senior quarterback will try to shake up the football establishment Saturday as he leads the Tribe into the stadium in which he spent many childhood weekends. “I’ve been coming since I was old enough to be carried,“ he said. “We’ve had the same seats forever at the front of the upper deck on the 40-yard line.“

Tribe’s Archer: ready to take his turn
You’ve been a valuable wide receiver for two years. And then an offer comes to return to quarterback, the position you came to college to play. But there’s a catch. You’ll have to be a backup behind a successful senior quarterback. You’ll have to stand on the sideline most of the time and essentially sacrifice a year of your career. And then you’ll get a one-shot deal as a senior.
