The opera is on in Rappahannock County beginning tomorrow with a 7 p.m. performance of “The Turn of the Screw.“  The first Castleton Festival—believed to be the only chamber-opera festival in the country—kicks off at the farm of Lorin Maazel, the recently retired director of the New York Philharmonic, and his wife, actress Dietlinde Turban L. MaazelMaazel. It’ll run through July 19, with performances most days.

A Rappahannock County couple have become Virginia’s second Mega Millions jackpot winner this month. Virginia Lottery officials said yesterday that Joe and Sue Claffy won $19 million in the May 15 drawing. Joe Claffy bought $6 worth of tickets after the clerk at Martin’s Food Market in Front Royal asked him if he wanted to play. The winning ticket was one of two nationwide to split the $38 million Mega Millions jackpot.
