Convicted slumlord Oliver C. Lawrence will split his 70 days of incarceration between the Richmond City Jail and a vacant house he owns on North 19th Street in Richmond.

Richmond police say this morning that four people were shot just after midnight in North Richmond, and at least one victim has life-threatening injuries.

Richmond police are investigating a shooting last night in the Whitcomb Court public housing complex.

Playwright Neil LaBute is known for exposing the bad behavior and bad motives that people like to hide. The Virginia Board of Medicine approved the suspension in a 6-0 vote. The action averted a hearing on Dr. Charles K. Authorities arrested a man they say tried to kill himself by setting fire to a house in Richmond’s East End, only to be rescued by firefighters from the burning building.

Police said that a pickup truck involved in a serious hit-and-run Sunday night may be missing part of a plastic bug deflector across the hood.

• In 1978, City Councilman Raymond D. Royall was presumed drowned after he apparently faked a boating accident. He turned up in St. Louis with a new identity. He returned to Richmond and pleaded guilty to making a false statement to a bank in applying for a loan and failing to file a corporate income tax return.

• Also in 1978, the Virginia Supreme Court ruled that Councilman William I. Golding Sr. had to give up his council seat because he had been convicted of eight felony counts in 1955, including breaking and entering and auto theft. His voting rights were later restored, and he was re-elected.
