Ruling on ex-SEAL trainee challenged
Dustin Allen Turner isn’t getting out of jail just yet. Three days after a Virginia Court of Appeals panel overturned the one-time Navy SEAL trainee’s conviction in the 1995 murder of a Georgia college student, the state’s attorney general announced he was asking the full court to review the finding. “I have decided to seek review by the full Court of Appeals in the case of Dustin Turner,“ Attorney General Bill Mims said in a statement yesterday.

IB program to be required at Midlothian Middle School
Midlothian Middle School will be the first Chesterfield County middle school to implement the rigorous International Baccalaureate program this fall, and it will be mandated for all students. Some parents are concerned that the program’s additional course requirements leave little room for elective options. “We take very seriously any concerns that might be raised, but the vast majority have been positive comments about the program,“ said Midlothian Principal Patrick L. Stanfield.

Group pushes Richmond for green-transit projects
Imagine traffic jams and parking squeezes in certain parts of Richmond clearing out as people scoot around on electric-powered vehicles such as the Segway Personal Transporter or use other, alternative types of transportation. Buck Ward, who last year opened the Segway of Richmond dealership on East Cary Street, envisions such a scenario happening more often in urban areas as the green transportation movement develops.

Garrett Jones, with 10 home runs, became the first Pirate to lead the majors for a month since Willie Stargell hit 11 in April, 1971.
