Opening a second store is challenging enough for a retailer looking to expand. But throw a troubled shopping center into the mix and stressed-filled nights are sure to follow. That is what has happened to business owner Anne Kennon, who owns the maternity fashion boutique It’s Hip to be Round. Ever since founding the Carytown shop in 2005, she has wanted to expand into western Henrico County to reach customers there.

Rocketts Landing gaining new tenants

Business is picking up at Rocketts Landing, with the addition of a popular Shockoe Bottom restaurant and a developer opening new offices in the mixed-use community overlooking the James River. Zuppa will move from its current location on North 18th Street to a space in the 210 Rock Building at Rocketts Landing, which straddles the city boundary with eastern Henrico County The timing of the move has not been disclosed.

Rocketts Landing boat slips available  05/16/09 12:01 AM

Boat slips within view of the downtown skyline are available now for lease at the Village at Rocketts Landing. After Rocketts residents took the first 15 slots in the first two weeks, the marina’s other 25 boat slips on the James River are now available to anyone, said Jason Vickers-Smith, vice president for WVS, developer of the property.

The Village of Rocketts Landing is putting docks in the water—but the economy isn’t floating many boats. The new community has leased just five of the 40 boat slips it began putting into the water yesterday to create a marina that will serve condominium dwellers and other private boaters.

Restaurant in works at Rocketts Landing  12/17/08 12:01 AM

An abandoned power plant that once provided electricity for Richmond’s trolley cars will become home to a restaurant with views of the James River as part of the ongoing Rocketts Landing development. Developers of the mixed-use residential and commercial development in East Richmond and Henrico County also announced yesterday that they have received final permits needed to start construction of a private marina on the James. The restaurant and the marina are scheduled to open this summer.
