Virginia Union University gets major scholarship gift
The Richmond Community Hospital Foundation is giving Virginia Union University $1.3 million for a new scholarship and internship program. Dr. Frank Royal, the hospital foundation board’s chairman, described the donation as a “transfer of love, commitment and a little money” during a ceremonial check presentation at the school yesterday.

Virginia Union gets major scholarship donation
The Richmond Community Hospital Foundation is donating $1.3 million to Virginia Union University to be used for a scholarship and internship program. Dr. Frank Royal, the foundation’s board chairman, presented the check during a breakfast meeting at Virginia Union, a historically black school in Richmond’s North Side community. The school, in a partnership with Bon Secours Richmond Health System, will create an internship program for students pursuing health care management-related careers.

VMI names first Marshall recipient
Robert B. Wray III, a second-year cadet at Virginia Military Institute and a graduate of James River High School in Chesterfield County, is the first recipient of the John Marshall Cadet Memorial Scholarship. The grant was recently created by the John Marshall Cadet Alumni Association with a gift of $250,000 to the VMI Foundation.

Appomattox Regional student wins Comcast award :
John Morelock, a student at Appomattox Regional Governor’s School in Petersburg and a Dinwiddie County resident, has been selected as a 2009-10 Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program recipient. The program recognizes high school seniors from Comcast communities for their commitment to community service, academics and demonstrated leadership. The scholarship is a one-time award of $1,000 and will be used in the 2009-10 academic year at the school of Morelock’s choice.
