Whether it was from the ebullient cheerleaders on the floor or the roaring ovations from their supporters in the stands, the arena was rocking. Cheerleaders and dancers from across Virginia converged on downtown Richmond for the 29th annual Virginia State Cheer & Dance Championships. Richmond has been home to the championships since the competition’s inception in 1980.

WASHINGTON—The Washington Wizards announced their eight-game preseason schedule yesterday, highlighted by the team’s first-ever game at the Siegel Center on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University. The Wizards will host Rudy Gay, O.J. Mayo and the Memhis Grizzlies on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. before returning to D.C. to play the Dallas Mavericks on Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. in their lone preseason game at the Verizon Center.

Motorists driving past Virginia Commonwealth University’s Monroe Park campus should expect delays over the next 10 days while high school graduations are held at the Siegel Center. From today through June 13, more than 20 public high schools from the counties of Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico and New Kent are holding ceremonies at the Siegel Center at 1200 W. Broad St., along with a private school and a technical school.
