U.Va. men’s tennis team wins Intercollegiate Tennis Association indoor title
The University of Virginia’s men’s tennis team won its second consecutive Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Team Indoor Championship with a 4-1 victory over Georgia in today’s final at the Midtown Tennis Club in Chicago. The Cavaliers are now 12-0 for the season; it was the Bulldogs’ (8-1) first defeat. Last season, the Virginia team won the ITA National Indoor title to become the first ACC team to win a tennis national team championship.

Red Roberts, founder of football group, dies
Clarence C. “Red” Roberts was a youth football association founder, coach, equipment manager, chief financial officer and groundskeeping crew for the Redskins. The Kanawha Redskins. “Our primary concern was that all of our kids get to play ball,“ Mr. Roberts told The Richmond News Leader in 1989, the league’s third year. “He told all the parents that the association was for the kids and that every child would get an equal opportunity to play,“ said his wife, Peggy Roberts, association co-founder and treasurer.
