Stafford man charged in death of baby
STAFFORD—A Stafford County man faces charges of second-degree murder in the death of his infant son. Jason Wade Andre, 31, was arrested late Thursday after an indictment, which was presented to a Stafford grand jury last week, according to the Stafford Sheriff’s Office. On June 29, Andre’s 7-week-old son was having trouble breathing; with CPR in progress, Stafford deputy William Johnson responded to the 911 call for help. Johnson assisted in CPR efforts before emergency crews could take the baby to Stafford Hospital Center. The baby was then taken by helicopter to Inova Fairfax Hospital.

4th-grade class to be pen pals with Marine in Iraq
Nine-year-old Matthew Cabell is used to having a long-distance relationship with his dad. Soon, many of his classmates at Margaret Brent Elementary School in Stafford County will get a sense of what it feels like. Matthew’s father, Lt. Col. Joseph Cabell, who is beginning his third tour of duty in Iraq, will be pen pals with his son’s fourth-grade class.

Study: 7 Va. counties see rapid Hispanic growth
Hispanics accounted for just more than half of the overall U.S. population growth since 2000, a study released today by the Washington-based Pew Hispanic Center found. Frederick, Culpeper, Fauquier, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Loudoun and Prince William counties in Virginia are among 25 counties in the nation with the largest percentage change in Hispanic population from 2000 to 2007, the study found.
