Just because Bo Dillaz specializes in quesadillas doesn’t mean there is anything Mexican about the place. Robert “Bo” DiBuono, owner of the restaurant at 916 W. Broad St., is instead trying to “reinvent the sandwich.“ “Just like when wraps became big, and now paninis, I’m looking forward to the next category,“ he said.

Table Talk: Special prices at Morton’s; area patios open
For those itching for Morton’s-level food without the high-end prices, the steakhouse just began its daily “Power Hour” from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Patrons can visit the bar for specially priced drinks ($4 beer, $5 wines and $7 specialty “Mortinis”) and also purchase a Morton’s prime sirloin burger and fries for $15.

Table Talk: Easy Street reopens
Welcome back, Easy Street. After closing about six months ago, the popular Fan eatery reopened this week with a refreshed look and new menu. Jake Crocker, a partner in the restaurant along with D. Hayden Fisher, original owner Wayne Street and executive chef Michael McGhee, said the goal of the revamped spot is to cater more to the young professionals who live in the Fan.

Irish pub comes to the West End
About a week and a half ago, just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, Finn McCools quickly and quietly opened in the Innsbrook Shoppes. The Irish pub—which bears no connection to other pubs around the nation with the same name—is owned by David Stout and Tim Bulman, who also owned Foster’s Grille, the previous inhabitant of the space at 4028-J Cox Road.

Café Gutenberg reopens
Café Gutenberg fans have had to bide their time for almost two months while the restaurant at 17th and Main streets underwent a makeover. The re-imagined Gutenberg opened yesterday, boasting more seating—131 versus 80 to 100 before—and a revamped menu.

TABLE TALK: Bogart’s re-opens; Credo’s closes Nearly a year ago, Bogart’s on Lombardy Street in the Fan closed when its lease expired at the end of April. But last week, the new Bogart’s—now at 1903 W. Cary St.—reopened in a new building. General Manager Nick Hanson said he has added a lot of fresh seafood to the menu, but many of the old favorites are intact, too.

Now, his time is dominated by sweeter tasks—baking cupcakes, to be exact. This spring, Fraker and his business partner Jason Ferrell will open Frostings, a gourmet cupcake shop, in Short Pump Station (11331 W. Broad St., Suite 137).

When you get that craving for Bottoms Up, you now have only one place to fulfill it: the original location in Shockoe Bottom. Last weekend, the Glen Allen branch at 11389 Nuckols Road switched to a new concept called Paradise Pizza. The restaurant is owned by James Jones, who was paying a licensing fee to original Bottoms Up owners Steve Lewis and Dirk Graham.

Ruchee Unique Indian Restaurant has garnered many fans during its six years at its Midlothian Turnpike location. Now, city dwellers and Virginia Commonwealth University folks can get their fix a bit closer. The newly opened Ruchee Express (1201 W. Main St.) has taken over the space formerly occupied by Fat Larry’s Steaks & Hoagies.

Richmond doesn’t have a Pinkberry—actually, only New York and Los Angeles are lucky enough to have the groovy frozen-yogurt chain—but it does have something similar: Verry Berry. The locally owned and operated frozen-yogurt shop opened a couple of weeks ago at 1311 W. Broad St., across from the Siegel Center in the former Capital Garage building.

Things are chugging along at the upcoming The Belvidere at Broad (506 W. Broad St.) with an opening expected in April or May. Owner David Hassen said the menu will be eclectic, with a strong vegetarian selection and frequent use of locally grown products. Hassen is opening the restaurant—his first—because he had an interest in participating in the revitalization of Broad Street and wanted another dining option for First Fridays attendees.

Pasta Luna restaurant on W. Broad shuts down
Pasta Luna has served its last penne. The Italian restaurant at 8902 W. Broad St. in western Henrico County closed last week after nearly 15 years in that location.
