A man of steal
The football was the only thing on Pierre Hawkes’ horizon. Dinwiddie’s senior defensive saw the pass leave the Thomas Dale backup quarterback’s hand. As it came to his side of the field on the Knights sideline, it got bigger and bigger. By the time Hawkes rose up in front of receiver Jeremy Coleman and wrapped his gloves around the ball, it was positively huge.

Thomas Dale center’s stature grows
Tonight’s game against Dinwiddie is the most meaningful of Drew Lamb’s high school career. A win would put Lamb’s team, the Thomas Dale Knights, in control of the Central District.

Exum powers No. 2 Deep Run
Antone Exum tossed five touchdowns and ran for another as Deep Run, No. 3 in the Times-Dispatch Top 10 Poll, defeated John Marshall 51-20 last night in each team’s Colonial District opener.

Thomas Dale tops Deep Run in meeting of volleyball powers
The Thomas Dale High School Knights boys’ volleyball team is the reigning region and Group AAA state champion. Tonight the Knights served notice that they are gunning for another title with a victory over the previously undefeated Deep Run High School Wildcats.

Deadline for nominations for the Scholar-Athlete award for September is Oct. 8.
