15th Autumn Pilgrimage House and Garden Tour takes place Saturday  09/25/09 12:09 AM

Historic residences in Charles City County will be open tomorrow for Westover Church’s 15th Autumn Pilgrimage House and Garden Tour. The tour, which runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., includes a home built in 1790 in Chesterfield County and moved by barge in 1998 to its current site on the banks of the James River. Forest Hill neighborhood’s fall house tour  09/18/09 12:09 AM

Performing arts and exotic artwork will be the focus Sunday of the third annual “Country in the City” house tour in Richmond’s Forest Hill neighborhood. The neighborhood association event, from noon to 5 p.m., features nine homes, from Colonial foursquares to cottages. The tour features homes owned by a former ballerina, an associate conductor for the Richmond Symphony, a water colorist and a seamstress. Art is a focal point in each home, from Italian Murano glass chandeliers to paintings from a murdered scene maker for a German opera house.

An artist painting the blooming spring color will be featured in each garden on Ginter Park’s “En Plein Air Perennials, Your Favorite Gardens and Homes” tour. The open air tour, scheduled for May 16 from noon to 5 p.m., includes four homes, nine gardens and the chapel at Ginter Park Baptist Church. Tour locations:

  • 3212 Noble Ave., house and garden. Note the sparkling chandelier that took four men to carry into the house and the simple boxwood garden, complementing a relaxing outdoor dining spot.

Pre-dawn tour scheduled at Pamplin Historical Park  03/24/09 1:17 PM

Pamplin Historical Park historians will commemorate the Petersburg Breakthrough with a pre-dawn tour on April 4, beginning at 5:30 a.m. The tour provides visitors with the same perspective experienced by Civil War soldiers on both sides who fought at the Petersburg Breakthrough. Unlike the soldiers in 1865, participants will enjoy a hot breakfast following the tour at the park’s Hardtack & Coffee Cafe.

The Dave Matthews Band will return to John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville this spring for a two-night stand. The band will perform April 17-18, with Old Crow Medicine Show opening both dates. Earlier that week, on April 14, the band will release its first studio album in four years.

Historic Petersburg Foundation’s 31st annual homes tour takes place Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. The Christmas event, “The Homes on Westover Avenue,“ features seven open houses and refreshments (2 to 4 p.m.) at Christ & Grace Episcopal Church, with music by Appomattox Regional Governor’s School students.
