Six killed in Va. crashes  06/28/09 12:01 AM

State police reported the deaths of six people after four vehicle crashes on state roads Friday. That brought the 2009 Virginia highway death toll to 333, compared with 400 at the same time last year.

  • Haven L. Dobbins, 62, of Narrows died at 3:47 p.m., about 15 minutes after he crashed his motorcycle on Interstate 77, just north of Interstate 81 in Wytheville. The motorcycle ran off the road and struck a culvert.

Two killed, one injured in Hanover crash  06/28/09 12:01 AM

Two people were killed and another injured in a fiery head-on collision yesterday afternoon in Hanover County. The crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Georgetown Road. U.S. 301 was shut down for hours as investigators worked the scene, said Sheriff’s Office Capt. Mike Trice. A car with two occupants heading south on U.S. 301 struck another car heading in the other direction. The car traveling south caught fire, and the two people died at the scene. They had not been identified late last night.
