Longwood women’s basketball coach Kristin Caruso did not accompany the Lancers on their current two-game road trip to North Carolina. School officials are describing Caruso’s situation as “an indefinite leave of absence for personal reasons.“ Assistant coach Mike Davis guided the Lancers (4-12) through Monday’s 82-70 loss at Campbell and will do so again for tonight’s game at Davidson.

Troy Austin’s fingers are crossed. The Longwood University athletic director hopes yesterday’s announcementthat Campbell will leave the Atlantic Sun Conference and join the Big South Conference for 2011-12 might create an affiliation opportunity for the Lancers. Longwood does not belong to a league and hasn’t since it became a full-fledged Division I member two years ago.
