For the first time in more than 20 years, Ukrop’s Super Market is not the No. 1 grocery shopping destination for Richmond-area shoppers. The family-owned chain lost it place to North Carolina-based Food Lion LLC, which took over the top spot, according to a market study conducted by Food World, a trade publication that follows the grocery industry in the mid-Atlantic.

Did someone mention a dash for cash? Tilahun Regassa, a 19-year-old Ethiopian of enormous promise, could do exactly that in this morning’s 10th running of the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K. Regassa and a handful of other elite males have a chance to collect $5,500 in the 6.2-mile race: $2,000 for winning the men’s overall title, $1,000 for setting a course record and $2,500 for reaching the finish line ahead of Midlothian resident Anne Parker, the mother of four who will be given a 2.7-mile head start in the Dash for the Cash promotion sponsored by AT&T.

Scott Ukrop and Jay Hugo have an ambitious plan. They want to shorten the amount of time it takes to complete a home addition. The co-owners of Grace Street Home Additions hope their plan can be carried out initially in 40 days.

Blair Ashton of Chesterfield County will host a Thanksgiving meal for eight guests at her house tomorrow. But she won’t be cooking. Instead, Ashton will unpack a box and hit the timer on her microwave. “I don’t like to be in the kitchen,“ she said. Ashton is one of nearly 5,000 people who have ordered prepared meals from Ukrop’s Super Markets Inc. leading up to Thanksgiving. The chain said it has about 1,000 orders for prepared side dishes as well.
