Gubernatorial candidates in Va. react to Employee Free Choice bill
The Democratic candidates for governor reacted cautiously to the proposed federal Employee Free Choice Act yesterday, while the Republican candidate attacked it. The bill was introduced yesterday in the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. It would reform labor laws by allowing workers to form unions by signing a card or petition, removing an employer’s right to demand a secret vote.

Union organizing dispute heats up in Washington
The Employee Free Choice Act is a bill that would make it easier for workers to join a union if they want. In turn, workers would get the wage and benefit boost they need to support their families.
Card Check Bill Chills Democracy
Last year a politician said, “If a majority of workers want a union, they should get a union. It’s that simple.“ So, let’s allow a group of employees who wish to be represented by a union—say 30 percent—to file a petition with the National Labor Relations Board. Those who favor a union, and those who do not, can share facts and express opinions. Union supporters can convey their views during breaks, lunch, and after hours through conversations, e-mails, calls, mailings, and even home visits.
