HALIFAX, Nova Scotia ACanadian musician has become an Internet sensation after posting a song on YouTube about United Airlines breaking his guitar. Dave Carroll’s video for the song “United Breaks Guitars” was posted on site this week and has received more than 600,000 hits. “I was thinking I’d definitely get some action on [YouTube], because the song has been resonating so well with audiences as I’ve been performing it, but I didn’t know it would take off like this,“ Carroll said.

Airlines charging more and more fees  06/23/09 12:01 AM

As if charging $15 to check a bag weren’t enough, two airlines are asking for $5 more beginning this summer if you pay at the check-in counter—a fee on top of a fee. Of course, you could always pay your baggage fee from home. The airlines call it the “online discount.“ If airlines can get away with that, what’s next? Rather than raise fares in the middle of a recession, they’re piling on fees to make money—fees for bags, fees to get through the line faster, even fees for certain seats.

Smoke aboard plane prompts Charlottesville landing  02/06/09 12:01 AM

A United Airlines regional flight from Chicago to Richmond landed at the Charlottesville Albemarle Regional Airport yesterday after reports of smoke in the cabin. United Express Flight 8066 was due to arrive at Richmond International Airport at about 2:30 p.m. but landed in Charlottesville around 2:10 p.m. The plane landed “routinely and safely,“ and none of the 26 passengers or four crew members on board was injured, United Airlines spokesman Jeff Kovick said.
