Cavaliers, Terps will have to work around Obama’s inauguration
Barack Obama’s inauguration is next Tuesday, Jan. 20, in Washington. About a dozen miles away in College Park, Md., Virginia and Maryland will play an ACC men’s basketball game that night. Typically, U.Va.‘s traveling party spends only one night in a hotel before a road game. Because of the inauguration, however, the Cavaliers will leave Charlottesville on Sunday and stay that night in Columbia, Md. They usually stay in Greenbelt, Md., but they’re heading farther away from Washington to avoid the inauguration-related congestion.

U.Va. women gain title game
Monica Wright scored 22 points and Lyndra Littles added a season-high 21 to lead No. 16 Virginia to an 83-38 victory over Rider yesterday in the Cavalier Classic. It was the seventh straight game Wright has topped 20 points. She also had six steals. The Cavaliers never trailed, building a 48-19 halftime lead behind 16 first-half points from Littles and 12 from Wright.

Auburn edges Virginia 58-56
CHARLOTTESVILLE—Dwayne Reed hit a 3-pointer with 1:24 left and Auburn held on for a 58-56 victory over Virginia tonight. The Tigers (6-4) led 50-42 with 9:15 remaining before Virginia (4-4) scored 12 unanswered points, including five points each from Sammy Zeglinski and Sylven Landesberg, to take a 54-50 lead—its first since 12:42 left in the first half.
