Man charged with Oregon Hill graffiti  10/23/09 12:01 AM

Richmond police have arrested an Oregon Hill man in several recent cases of graffiti vandalism in Oregon Hill and city parks. Chad J. Niemi, 33, of the 600 block of South Cherry Street is charged with three counts of destruction of property and one count of possession of marijuana. Authorities said an investigation found physical evidence at Niemi’s home to support the finding that he is a graffiti vandal. On Wednesday, police released examples of graffiti attributed to Niemi that consisted largely of images of bizarre faces and figures.

Three Lakes Park reopens after racist graffiti is removed  10/15/09 12:01 AM

Henrico County reopened Three Lakes Park yesterday morning after repairing damage by vandals who defaced the park with racist and anti-Semitic graffiti. “We’ve never had damage to a park site this extensive,“ said Karen Mier, director of Henrico’s Department of Parks and Recreation. Three Lakes was the fifth location and the third park in recent weeks to be targeted by vandals who have spray-painted racist and anti-Semitic language and symbols in the Richmond area.

King and Queen high school closed after vandalism  10/02/09 11:22 AM

KING AND QUEEN—Authorities closed Central High School early today after they discovered the building had been broken into and vandalized, the county superintendent of schools said. A dairy delivery driver noticed the school had been broken just before 5 a.m., said Superintendent Richard W. Layman. Amid concern that a suspect could possibly still be inside the building, officials closed the school and the sheriff’s department and State Police began a room-by-room search, Layman said.

Historic black Goochland church, school vandalized  09/09/09 12:01 AM

Goochland County authorities are looking for the people responsible for vandalizing a local church and the historic black school on its property but are having little luck so far. Second Union Baptist Church and its one-story schoolhouse off Hadensville-Fife Road in the rural western end of the county sustained $12,000 to $18,000 in damage last weekend.

Vandals hit 47 vehicles in Petersburg  07/01/09 12:01 AM

PETERSBURG—Police say three North Carolina men used a .22-caliber gun, a 4-foot metal pole and rocks to smash the windows of more than 40 parked vehicles in an early-morning vandalism rampage. No one was injured in the incident, which began early yesterday and ended with police arresting the men about 45 minutes later. Police said the men smashed the windows of 47 vehicles parked on 10 streets in the city’s Walnut Hill neighborhood.
