Girls basketball: No. 3 Highland Springs, Varina 45
In the Capital District girls rivalry game, Highland Springs came away with the victory over Varina. The Springers used a 23-point fourth period, holding the Blue Devils to just seven over the same frame, to put a stamp on the win. Kyra Coleman scored 21 points to the Springers. Linisha Tinsely added 17 and Takeisha Jefferies chipped in 11.

Girls Basketball: No. 10 Varina 66, Clover Hill 34
Raneka Dunaway, Tierra Bell and Stequita Cooper were a Varina three-hit combination that knocked out Clover Hill in a nondistrict girls basketball game yesterday. Dunaway, Bell and Cooper finished with 14, 11 and 10 points respectively for the Blue Devils. Lindsey Tucker scored a game-high 17 points for the Cavaliers. VARINA (11-5)
