Collegiate’s Zell wins top field hockey honor
Hillary Zell of state champion Collegiate is the player of the year, and Cougars teammates Katie Mastropieri and Janie O’Connor join her on the Virginia Independent Schools, Division I all-state field hockey team. St. Catherine’s, which handed Collegiate two of its three losses this season before falling in the state tournament final, placed Chaney Manganello and Sydney Schreiner on the all-state team.

Boys soccer: St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes 4, Benedictine 2
ALEXANDRIA—St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes scored two goals early in the first half and again in the second half to defeat Benedictine 4-2 and advance to the semifinals of VISAA boys soccer tournament. The Saints meet Collegiate tomorrow at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond. Cohen Bond, Cal Perfall, John Quarles and Peter Voth scored for SSSA, which took fewer shots but made the most of their opportunities.

Boys: Evangel Christian 69, Calvary Christian 67
Harry West’s 16 points, including the game-winning field goal at the buzzer, led No. 6 seed Evangel Christian to its victory over No. 11 seed Calvary Christian in the first round of the VISAA Division 3 state playoffs. Calvary Christian was led by 28 points from Donell Davis and 27 from Andrey Thomas. Evangel Christian’s second-round game is Wednesday at No. 3 seed Southside Baptist in Richmond at 4:30 p.m.
