‘Softball mom’ sentenced for theft from organization
A “softball mom” will serve six months in prison for stealing $43,174 from a York County girls softball organization over the course of about a year. Molly R. Robb, 40, was sentenced yesterday by Circuit Judge R. Bruce Long to 15 years in prison, with all but six months suspended. Long also ordered Robb to pay back the $43,000 she stole from York Amateur Softball Association while a parent volunteer.

Swine flu emerges at high schools in York, James City
There have been no new cases of swine-flu-related illness at Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center in Chesterfield County, but cases of the virus continue to increase across the state. On the Peninsula, health and school officials say a male student at Grafton High School in York County and a male student at Jamestown High School in James City County have the virus and are recovering at home.

Registration is open for York County’s singles tennis tournament
The 2009 York County singles tennis tournament, “A Grand Prix Event,“ will be held at Back Creek Park on May 1-3. The tournament will feature men’s and women’s singles, offering open and rated levels 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5. Champion and finalist trophies will be awarded in each division. Registration will close April 29 at 6 p.m. The cost per event is $20 with a $1 discount allowed for PTPA members. Registration is limited to two events. If there are not enough entries to make a division, divisions will be combined or canceled. If people are registered to play in two events, scheduling conflicts will not be honored. The draw will be held April 29.
