The 5-8 setter delivered 111 assists in her club's four matches, including 31 in a 3-1 victory over Randolph-Macon. BRIAN WELCH, VIRGINIA TECH Sport: Cross country Local connection: Sophomore from Mills Godwin Notable: The official results list Welch as the fifth-place finisher at Virginia Tech's dual meet with Lees-McRae. In fact, the top five runners in the 6K race -- all Hokies -- were credited with the same time: 20:26. Welch earned six All-Metro citations at Mills Godwin. SCOTT ROBERTSON, U.S. NAVAL ACADEMY Sport: Soccer Local connection: Senior from Thomas Dale Notable: Robertson, a Navy captain and durable defender, was named to the all-tournament team following his club's victory in the UMBC Classic championship game. The quantitative economics major has earned commandant's list recognition on five occasions. ERIN BOLLINGER, LONGWOOD Sport: Field hockey Local connection: Sophomore from Clover Hill Notable: Bollinger, Longwood's starting goalkeeper, contributed four saves to her club's 1-0 overtime victory over VCU in a nonconference match on the Lancers' home field. None was bigger than a stop of a quality shot by VCU's Marle van Dessel late in regulation. GARRETT WREN, VIRGINIA Sport: Swimming Local connection: Senior from Mills Godwin/NOVA Notable: Wren, a freestyle/individual medley specialist who has been named three times to the ACC academic honor roll, will serve as a Cavaliers tri-captain in 2009-10. Wren, a two-time All-Metro performer, was chosen as the All-Metro swimmer of the year in 2006. ANNA WRIGHT, LYNCHBURG Sport: Soccer Local connection: Junior from Patrick Henry Notable: Wright, a second-year starting keeper who logged more than 1,000 minutes in 2008, stopped six shots in the Hornets' 4-1 victory over ODAC rival Roanoke.
