Virginia Commonwealth University runner and artist Tim Rusterholz will have one of his sculptures displayed during this week's NCAA Convention in Washington.

Rusterholz, a senior who competes in cross country as well as 800 meters and 1,500 meters, created two life-size figures on wooden stands: an American holding a sign for change, and a Kenyan tribesman holding a sign that translates to "the work continues."

"It's playing off my personal relationships with people from other countries and the current political things going on now," Rusterholz said in a release.

Rusterholz's work is among those from 20 student-athletes across the country. The convention runs today through Saturday at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center.

Rusterholz, from Lewisville, N.C., carries a 3.98 GPA. His work also will appear in the NCAA's Champion magazine. -- Tim Pearrell
