VCU NOTES: Saintil facing misdemeanor charge
Saintil facing misdemeanor charge
VCU basketball player Terrance Saintil is facing a misdemeanor charge of public building damage.
Saintil was wrestling with another student over an ice cream sandwich and punched a window in a dorm room at Ackell Residence Center on April 15, according to VCU spokeswoman Pam Lepley, speaking for the university police.
Lepley did not have a damage estimate. Saintil has a hearing scheduled for July 31 in Richmond General District Court.
The 6-8, 230-pound forward from North Miami, Fla., averaged 1.7 points, 1.8 rebounds and 7.7 minutes as a freshman this past season.
Johnson sets another high jump mark
Verniece Johnson continues to rewrite the VCU record book in the women's long jump.
The senior from Mineral, broke her record last week, clearing 20-3¾ at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Johnson set the record with a leap of 20-3½ in the CAA championship meet in April. She has won five events this season.
Johnson will compete in the NCAA East Regional, which begins next week in Greensboro, N.C.
Teammate Natalie Duncan has put her name in the record book as well. Duncan set a school mark in the shot put with a throw of 44-10¼ at the Penn Relays. -- Tim Pearrell
Reader Reactions
If all Terrance Saintil did was punch or break a window in a dorm, why is this a misdemeanor - and why does it have to go to district court? Can’t the university handle this in-house?
