CHARLOTTESVILLE -- Monica Wright sank her final 10 shots from the field and scored 25 of her game-high 31 points in the second half to lift Virginia's No. 14-ranked women's basketball team past Manhattan 86-68 yesterday.

Wright, who attempted just four shots in the first half, finished 12 for 14 from the field and moved into fifth place on the Cavaliers' all-time scoring list. The senior also added five steals and four assists. Virginia improved to 2-0.

WILLIAM AND MARY 70, RAD FORD 40: Tasha Pye scored 17 points and Emily Correal added nine points and 15 rebounds as the Tribe blasted Radford in the season opener for both teams. Kymesha Alston led the Highlanders with 16 points.

HOLLINS 78, GALLAUDET 74: Jasmine Greene scored 31 points on 12-of-19 shooting as Hollins won its opener.

NO. 8 TENNESSEE 74, BAY LOR 65: Shekinna Stricklen had 25 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Lady Vols past the Bears.

TEXAS A&M 95, NO. 6 DUKE 77: Danielle Adams scored 24 points in her collegiate debut as the Aggies, playing at home, stunned the Blue Devils. Jasmine Thomas led Duke (1-1) with 26 points.

The win improved Texas A&M's all-time record against the Blue Devils to 3-0.

NO. 9 LSU 92, CENTENARY 19: Allison Hightower scored 20 points before sitting for most of the second half as the Tigers constructed the second-largest margin of victory in program history.

NO. 10 MICHIGAN STATE 71, DETROIT 62: Aisha Jefferson scored 16 points to help the Spartans collect their first vcictory of the season. Michigan State (1-1) trailed 37-36 at halftime but went on a 15-3 run early in the second half.
