Women’s basketball: Moss leads VCU to overtime win

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- D'Andra Moss scored 33 points and brought down 10 rebounds as VCU defeated Morgan State 75-68 in double overtime.

Knotted up at 56 apiece, the game went into overtime. Still tied at 63 after the first overtime, it wasn't until the second overtime that VCU outscored Morgan State 12-5 to claim the victory. La'Tavia Rorie added 11 points for the undefeated Rams. Corin Adams scored 22 points for Morgan State.

VIRGINIA STATE 68, ST. AU GUSTINE'S 57: Rhon'Neisha Taylor led all scorers with 16 points as visiting Virginia State (2-0 CIAA, 3-0) defeated St. Augustine's (0-1, 1-1). St. Augustine's had three players score in double figures, while Taylor was the only Trojan to score more than nine points. Betty Appiah had 14 rebounds and five blocks.

MOUNT ST. MARY'S 52, RADFORD 49: A second-half comeback fell short for host Radford. Kymesha Alston recorded her second straight double-double (14 points, 11 rebounds).

LIBERTY 55, NAVY 43: After falling behind by 16 points, in the first eight minutes, Liberty (4-0) came from behind to win the Navy Classic championship. Devon Brown recorded her second straight double-double (19 points, 11 rebounds).

RANDOLPH-MACON 74, METHODIST 50: Molly Ariail scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, finishing the R-MC Tip-Off Classic with a record of 2-0. Ariail was named the tournament's most outstanding player.

GREENSBORO 61, BRIDGE WATER 59: Nikki Wilborn made a three-pointer with one second left as Greensboro (1-2) defeated Bridgewater at the Randolph-Macon tournament. Wilborn scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

CNU 71, WASHINGTON AND LEE 57: The Captains (2-0) opened the second half with a 14-2 run, holding off the visiting Generals (0-2), who led by eight points in the first half. But CNU chipped away at the lead, cutting it to two at the half.

UMW 59, RICHARD STOCK TON 44: Mary Washington guard Jenna McRae scored a game-high 20 points as the Eagles (2-0) topped Richard Stockton (1-1) at the Mike Durgala Memorial Tournament in Baltimore.

EMU 83, JOHN JAY 27: Host Eastern Mennonite University (3-0) swamped John Jay (0-2) as Brittany Snyder led all scorers with 15 points.

ROANOKE 59, WIDENER 54: Widener (2-1) led by six points with under five minutes left and owned a 22-19 halftime lead, but visiting Roanoke (2-0) rallied to win. The Maroons shot 19% from the floor in the first half.

CATHOLIC 78, RANDOLPH 64: Katie Rechnitzer scored 25 points for Randolph (0-2) which fell to Catholic (2-2) in the Marymount University Marine Corp Tip-Off Tournament.

VIRGINIA WESLEYAN 80, MEREDITH 65: Virginia Wesleyan (2-0) wrapped up the Eastern Mennonite (0-2) Tip-Off Classic by defeating Meredith. Brittany Cornelius had a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds, along with five assists.

APPRENTICE 69, BRIAR CLIFFE 48: Sophomore Tamara Davis scored a game-high 21 points as Apprentice (3-1) defeated Briarcliffe (3-2) in the final day of the Great Ships Classic.

GWYNEDD MERCY 89, FER RUM 78: Ferrum (1-1) lost to Gwynedd Mercy (2-0) in the semifinals of the 2009 Marymount Marine Corps Tip-Off, despite getting 24 points from Brittney Bullock.

NO. 9 XAVIER 59, NO. 14 ARIZONA STATE 46: Freshman Katie Rutan made three consecutive 3s during a first-half run that put host Xavier ahead to stay, and had a steal and layup that ended Arizona State's comeback and sent the Musketeers to a victory.

NO. 7 LSU 72, HOUSTON 54: Freshman reserve Adrienne Webb lead host LSU with 17 points as the Lady Tigers (3-0) defeated Houston (3-1).
