VCU women surge late, blast JMU

HARRISONBURG -- D'Andra Moss scored 20 points, and VCU had a dominating 50-point second half yesterday, handing James Madison its worse home loss in Colonial Athletic Conference history, an 81-48 victory.

Quanitra Hollingsworth recorded 16 points and 11 rebounds in leading the Rams' offense, which forced 21 JMU turnovers. Courtney Hurt added 10 points for VCU, and Moss pulled down six boards.

Dawn Evans, the Dukes' leading scorer, was held to just 17 points, over six points below her season average, and committed seven turnovers. Kisha Stokes was the only other player in double digits, with 11 points and nine rebounds.

CHARLOTTESVILLE -- Monica Wright scored 20 points and No. 15 Virginia rebounded from a sluggish start to beat Wake Forest.

Wright, who also had nine rebounds, scored seven points and Lyndra Littles added eight of her 19 points for the Cavaliers during a 24-0 run in the final minutes of the game.

Camille Collier led the Demon Deacons with 25 points as she hit five 3-pointers. Collier scored 21 in the opening half as she hit 8 of 12 shots from the field.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Utahya Drye recorded 18 points and two other Hokies reached double figures, but Virginia Tech couldn't hold off Boston College.

Lakeisha Logan scored 15 points and Brittany Gordon had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Hokies. Laura Haskins added six points and eight assists.

Carolyn Swords led Boston College with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

TOWSON 68, GEORGE MASON 47: Brittany Poindexter totaled 11 points and six rebounds, but the Patriots (0-3 CAA, 2-12) fell at home to the Tigers (1-2, 9-4).

UNC Asheville 88 (OT)

RADFORD -- Joey Lynch-Flohr scored 22 points and Radford defeated North Carolina-Asheville in overtime.

The Highlanders used a 61.5 percent shooting first half (16 for 26) to jump out to a 44-35 lead at the halftime. But UNC Asheville outscored the Bulldogs 46-37 in the second half to force overtime.

The Bulldogs hit just 1 of 8 shots in OT, and were outscored 17-7.

Radford had five other players in double figures as Amir Johnson scored 18, Kenny Thomas and Artsiom Parakhouski each had 15 points, Eric Hall 11 and Chris McEachin 10.

August Reid led the Bulldogs with 27 points and Sean Smith added 18.

Anthony Wynn had 14 points, and Bruce Royal and Davon West each added 13 for the Tigers.
