Larry Sanders had 17 points, 14 rebounds and five blocked shots as Virginia Commonwealth held off Nevada 85-76 at the Siegel Center.

Ed Nixon added a career-high 17 points, and Bradford Burgess had 12.

The Rams (4-1) built a 20-point lead in the second half but watched it dwindle to seven with 1:31 left. Nixon drilled a big 3-pointer with just under a minute left to give VCU some breathing room.

Luke Babbitt, after going 2 for 11 and scoring just four points in the first half, finished with 27 points and 11 rebounds for Nevada (2-2). He had eight of the Wolf Pack's 27 offensive rebounds.

Nevada hit just 29 of 82 shots (35.4 percent).
