Virginia Commonwealth University yesterday announced that its men's basketball program added a third backcourt recruit for the 2009-10 team. Rams coach Shaka Smart signed 5-11 Issiah Grayson, who is from Dunwoody. Ga., but spent last season at Findlay College Prep in Henderson, Nev.

Smart said Grayson brings "elite speed and quickness" to VCU.

Grayson averaged 4.1 points and 2.8 assists for Findlay College Prep, which finished last season 33-0. As a junior, Grayson led Dunwoody High School to a 27-4 mark and a berth in the state's Class 3A final four. He averaged about 17 points for that team.

Since Smart was named VCU's coach April 2, he also signed 6-4 Darius Theus, who is from Portsmouth, and 6-4 Troy Daniels, who is from Roanoke. - John O'Connor

Why do we need another back court player?

Why not bring in a big project who needs to red shirt?  I would have preferred the one handed kid from Fork Union to another smallish point guard with speed.

How does this help?  We already have Joey.  This makes sense to me only if Joey had actually left.
