VCU’s Kearse stays home

Virginia Commonwealth University basketball coach Anthony Grant said sophomore forward Lance Kearse made "a personal decision" not to travel with the Rams to play Georgia State on Wednesday.

Grant would not elaborate, other than to say the decision "had nothing to do" with Kearse's health.

Kearse has had to limit his participation in practice and games because of myopathy, a neuromuscular disorder in which the primary symptom is muscle weakness due to dysfunction of muscle fiber, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

"It was his decision, not mine," Grant said.

Grant would not comment on whether Kearse would be available to play Saturday against George Mason.
