RAMS LOSE MOSS FOR REMAINDER OF 2009 SEASON

Junior forward D’Andra Moss, the emotional leader of Virginia Commonwealth University’s women’s basketball team, will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a severe knee injury in Thursday night’s home victory over UNC Wilmington. Moss tore both her anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments. She was averaging 9.9 points and 5.9 rebounds for a VCU team that is battling for first place in the CAA standings with an 8-2, 18-4 record.

Rams coach Beth Cunningham called Moss’ misfortune “a tough and disappointing loss. She’s been an exceptional leader and plays with such passion in the way she approaches practices and games every day.“

The timing of Moss’ injury was little short of eerie. Rams post player Quanitra Hollingsworth was lost for the balance of the 2008 season after suffereing an achilles injury in last february’s home game against UNC Wilmington.
