HARRISONBURG - Justin Thorpe threw one touchdown pass and ran for another, helping James Madison score the game's first 22 points en route to a 22-14 win over Maine yesterday.

Thorpe was 9 for 13 with 133 yards and two interceptions for the Dukes ( 2-4 CAA, 4-5), and he added 83 yards rushing on 17 carries.

The James Madison quarterback rushed for a 42-yard touchdown to put the Dukes up 9-0 midway through the second quarter after a getting a safety earlier in the frame. Dixon Wright kicked field goals of 23 and 38 yards to put the Dukes up 15-0 with 16 seconds before halftime.

Thorpe sealed James Madison's scoring with a 31-yard pass to Scott Noble less than 5 minutes into the third.

Wide receiver Michael Brusko had 90 yards receiving and a score for the Black Bears (3-3, 4-5), and threw an 82-yard TD on his only pass attempt.

Other games

OLD DOMINION 42, N.C. CENTRAL 28: Thomas DeMarco rushed for 225 yards and four touchdowns, and threw for another one, to lead host Old Dominion past North Carolina Central.

DeMarco scored on runs of 38, 25, 20 and 16 yards as the Monarchs (8-2) won their fifth straight game. His first three touchdown runs gave Old Dominion a 21-0 lead with 8:45 left in the second quarter.

Mario Crawford's 9-yard run helped the Monarchs take a 28-0 lead with 8:11 left in the third quarter before North Carolina Central (2-7) scored on Michael Johnson's 13-yard pass to Earthan Ward.

It was the first of four consecutive TDs for the Eagles, who tied the score at 28 on Tim Shankle's 3-yard run with 10:41 left in the game.

BETHUNE-COOKMAN 27, HAMPTON 24: Jonathan Moment ran for three touchdowns as Bethune-Cookman beat visiting Hampton.

After trailing 24-20 at halftime, Moment broke a 19-yard touchdown run with 10:09 left in the third quarter to put Bethune-Cookman up for good.

Quarterback Matthew Johnson was 10-for-16 with 117 passing yards for the Wildcats (3-3 MEAC, 4-5).

Hampton (2-4, 4-5) was paced by running back LaMarcus Coker, who rushed for 119 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries. Pirates' quarterback David Legree added 113 passing yards for two touchdowns, while Isiah Thomas finished with 55 receiving yards and a touchdown.

NORFOLK STATE 31, MORGAN STATE 23: Dennis Brown threw for 215 yards and two touchdowns as visiting Norfolk State held off Morgan State.

DeAngelo Branche added 145 yards rushing and a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass for the Spartans (4-3 MEAC, 5-4).

Norfolk State, which led the MEAC in total defense entering the game, gave up 300 yards, but held Morgan State (3-3, 5-4) to a third-quarter field goal after taking a 21-20 lead into halftime.

Brown's 16-yard TD pass to Branche put Norfolk State ahead 28-20 with 11:14 left in the third quarter.

Kemar Scarlett cut the lead to 28-23 with a 52-yard field goal with 8:14 left in the third quarter, but Justin Castellat added a 38-yard field goal for a 31-23 lead with 11:24 remaining in the game.
